Following the success in 2011 of the Prouvé RAW crossover project between Vitra and G-Star RAW, the partnership was continued with the development of a second limited series: the Prouvé Raw Office Edition.
This second crossover collection revives a series of chairs and tables originally designed by Jean Prouvé in the 1940s for the offices of major French industrial companies which launched in February during a private exhibit event at Inform Contract in Vancouver.
Previously exhibited in New York and Los Angeles, the new collection includes a revival of a selection of furniture and lighting originally designed by Jean Prouvé. More than 70 years after their initial creation, Vitra has reinterpreted Jean Prouvé’s furnishings in cooperation with the designer’s family in order to meet the demands of the modern office and its users – from increased human height to cable management.
Vitra developed colors and details in collaboration with art directors at G-Star. The ten-piece series brings a contemporary look to Prouvé’s designs while remaining true to the originals. Vitra will only be producing the Prouvé RAW Office Collection until the end of 2016.
G-Star RAW was founded in 1989 and remains driven by a philosophy of “Just the Product”. With this dedication to quality and progress, the brand represents the forefront of the denim industry, inventing the ‘3D Denim’ approach to jeans construction in 1996, with the creation of the G-Star Elwood, G-Star now offers a wide range of apparel, accessories, footwear, and eyewear, alongside its jeans core.
In the Words of the Prouvé Family
“My father would have appreciated the new energy that this cooperation brings to his designs. He always wanted things to look fresh and new,” says Catherine Prouvé, daughter of Jean Prouvé. “It’s wonderful to see how the collaboration between Vitra and G-Star RAW gives a new feeling to the collection, and that individual pieces are returning to the office – the place for which they were originally designed.”
Made of steel and solid wood, the tables, chairs and cabinets of the Prouvé RAW Office Edition bear witness to a bygone industrial age. Using leather and heavy-duty fabric upholstery materials, in industrial shades of green, all details pay tribute to the furnishings’ original use and environments.
